WARNING: LARGE ANIMATION FILE.
An animation I made back in 2010. Some of you have probably seen it before. I rendered it again recently, now that I have a more powerful computer and a more recent version of Photoshop, which means that I can make it more than 300 pixels wide. Unfortunately, I still can't get rid of the pixellated dithering effect. It seems to be a GIF thing.
This took just over a month in Photoshop. I started with thirteen pencil sketches of different creatures, scanned them, "inked" them with the brush tool, and proceeded to draw progressively closer transitional stages until the lines started to blur together. The frame rate is lower than I'd like, but with thirteen different forms to switch between, it was either that or double the number of frames and go mad.
The creatures in here are, for the most part, no species in particular. The dog, cow and hyena are obvious; the bird looks a bit like a seagull. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. I just drew things that appealed to me. The backgrounds were a last-minute addition and took maybe fifteen minutes altogether. I wanted something besides a blank white background, but I didn't want to distract from the foreground figures, hence the washed-out lens-flare semi-abstract look.
13 species, 52 frames, 156 Photoshop layers, 1.5 months of work. It was worth every second.
Comments and advice are, as always, appreciated. If you want me to do one of these for you, send me a message, and I'll consider it. (No more than three species, please; one transformation marathon was quite enough.)

What is that thing before the bat and after the bug? A naked mole rat? I don't know what it is, but it's my favorite! XD
Chrysalis
Kado - it's a sort of pig... thing... that I made up on the spot. I didn't really have a particular species in mind; I was just trying for knobbly wrinkly bristly ugliness. It's one of my favorites too, actually.

Wow! Incredible work. I didn't expect it to go on so long; that must have taken so much time to put together.

The dithering is related to how you outputted it. Dithering is how you get more than 256 colors in GIFs... An animation in GIF needs to have the same palette in every frame, with the colors in the same positions. This is how your software dealt with mixing the palettes. You could posterize each frame and then create a master palette and then output it, but each frame would have less available colors.

I don't know if this would actually work, but it's worth a try. You could try "tweening" it in Adobe Flash, that would get you a very smooth animation.

Excellent work btw!
