vertigo

By night he chews furiously upon the furniture...

SirRob

By day he... still chews furiously upon the furniture... He's currently seeing a therapist about it.

Phaedrus

Last month he was arrested for 37 counts of Grand Theft Random Object. He escaped by crawling under every door in the prison.

szparrow

IMO it's much better than your current works

Selden

Unsubtle, parrow. While artists who do only occasional pieces can do fine details and triple-check their anatomy and posing, the more prolific ones (especially ones who draw comics) must instead strive for a style that works well with their schedule. While the resulting minimalism doesn't show the level of artistry the artist is capable of given infinite time, it's bad form to complain that he isn't being all he can be with what he draws in his spare time for you to view for free.

I think szparrow might have been trying to express that PickleJuices's work was improving, not that his work was bad.

SirRob

I agree with szparrow, I like PickleJuice's older works more. However, I do appreciate that he's still making TF art for us to enjoy. Selden, this is an exclusive art site, so I don't think szparrow is wrong for stating his opinion.

PickleJuice

An artist's skin is thin at birth, and an artist who posts ANYTHING to a public forum is asking for criticism. Transfur is one of the few places I get anything other than positive comments. I'm surprised no one's commented about his left paw! It's a horrible mess! I mean... look at it! I musta erased and redrew that thing 5 times, and it's still crap. Ah well. Onwards and upwards, fellows!

szparrow

glad you understand. And i maybe was a bit unsubtle, but i just like this style better.

SeaCigar

Actually, I think Parrow was making a mistake: mentioning that he liked his older/other work is fine, but then he should have said what it was about the old stuff that he liked, then comparing and contrasting to the current image, rather than making an over-general "it's worse" statement. It was PJ's comment on the paw that made me realize that there was no actual substance in the criticism to study upon, and thus improve. sort of like saying "fix this" then shrugging or waving your hands in the general direction of a picture.

... Of course, now that I think about it, only the most deluded artists are unable to see the flaws in their work. And the better they get, the easier they spot smaller flaws... and so the vicious cycle repeats in a self-whispered mantra of "You Suck"... I think the best artists are able to ignore this, or better yet, use it to indignantly fuel even stronger inspiration... definately one of the unforeseen hazards of being an artist.
